The Danger of Counterfeit Makeup

Who doesn’t love a dupe? Most people love to get a designer bag that looks the part but costs just a fraction of the price of the sunglasses that only you know are not real.

Dupes in makeup come in many forms. Some dupes are ingredient dupes; others are an exact color match. Some, however, are sold as dupes or the real deal and are fakes. The ingredients used are dangerous to humans, and prolonged usage can cause issues like acne, swelling, and irritation.

Counterfeit products are everywhere, and it can be hard to distinguish between what is real and what isn’t. When it comes to counterfeit products, you can take action against the producers and get a personal injury attorney

But what are the dangers of these products?

Allergic Reactions

When the counterfeit makeup is mixed, the ingredients used are untested for stability to sell them cheap and still make a profit. They can cause skin irritation and extreme allergic reactions.

In the case of eyeshadows and perfumes, these reactions can be horrific. The labels will often replicate the ones on the real product, and there is no way to know what the chemical is that you have on your skin.

Lead

Although lead used to be used in cosmetics and paint, many were taken off the market after the many illnesses associated with lead came to light.

Counterfeit makeup is often found to have up to 19 times the legal lead limit in their chemical makeup. Lead poisoning leads to joint and muscle pain, headaches, memory loss, and more. It is even more dangerous for pregnant people and can cause miscarriage or premature birth.

Eye Infections

Our eyes are very sensitive, and even slightly out-of-date makeup can cause an allergic reaction or an eye infection.

Checking the use-by date on your makeup regularly can help you avoid these issues, but if you are using counterfeit makeup, you are more likely to suffer from eye irritation and infections from the first use.

Within minutes of using the fake products, you may notice blurry vision, itching, or burning.

Chemical burns

Since counterfeit products are loaded with lead, mercury, and arsenic, it exposes our skin to the risk of chemical burns.

Products like eyeliner and lipstick are prime candidates for causing these horrific facial burns. The burns take a lot of time to heal and can cause scarring for life. These types of burns will require medical assistance pretty quickly to prevent infection and deep scarring.

Rat droppings

Due to the locations where these counterfeit products are made often include other items like rat droppings. The rat poop is not intentionally added as an ingredient, but some fake makeup has tested positive for this disgusting addition.

The other chemicals and the rat or other pest droppings add more bacteria and germs to an already unstable product applied to the face.

When it comes to makeup and skincare, it is always worth finding a reputable branded dupe or saving for the item you really want. Counterfeit makeup is dangerous and costly.
