Car safety can cover everything from knowing how to make some basic repairs to what to do in a car accident before you call car accident lawyers. Here’s how to stay safe on the road.

  1. Stay alert. Pay attention to your actions and the actions of the drivers around you.
  2. Don’t make assumptions. Don’t assume you know what other drivers are going to do.
  3. Use turn signals. You can’t depend on others signaling what they’re doing when driving, but you can control whether or not they know what to expect from you. Use your turn signals before you turn or change lanes.
  4. Buckle up. Always wear your seat belt. You are much less likely to be injured in an accident if you wear it, and can be fined if you don’t. This applies to babies and children as well, so using high-quality car seats such as the i gemm signature from Joie Baby is essential to ensure the safety of your loved ones.  Follow traffic signals. Pay close attention to and obey traffic signs and lights.
  5. Respect yellow lights. A yellow light is meant to notify drivers to slow down and prepare to stop. This signal should not be seen as assigned to accelerate to try and get through an intersection before the light turns red.
  6. Come to a complete stop. When you see a stop sign or a red light, you should bring your car to a complete stop, even if you are sure there are no other vehicles coming.
  7. Never text and drive. It can be incredibly dangerous to text when you are driving, as can messing about with your maps or music apps. Leave your phone alone until you’ve parked.
  8. Obey speed limits. Always stick to the speed limit at all times. The restrictions that are placed on speed are not just made up. They are carefully chosen to keep drivers safe and for individuals in the homes, businesses, and other buildings around the road.
  9. Make adjustments for the weather. When the weather isn’t ideal, such as rain, snow, or fog, use extra precautions when you drive, and follow any guidelines for staying safe in the particular situation that you are facing.
  10. Be patient. A lot of accidents are caused by impatient drivers who are in a hurry to get where they’re going; read here to know more. Time is important of course, but safety is even more important. After all, if you get into an accident, you will definitely experience more of a problem getting where you’re going on time than if you just had patience when you drive.
  11. Be predictable. Avoid making sudden stops or lane changes. Instead, make sure that other drivers are able to predict what you’re going to do to keep you all safe.
  12. Never drive under the influence. It’s important to avoid operating a car if you have been drinking, taking some kinds of prescription or non-prescription drugs, or are otherwise impaired.
