Eight Tips to Help Clear Up Troublesome Skin

We’d all love to have the benefits of clear, trouble-free skin but that’s not always the case for many of us. Even those who are blessed with good genetics will have their bad days with skin.

There are many factors that can impact your skin’s health, whether that be the amount of water you’re drinking every day to the environment you’re living in. Everything contributes to the health of your skin, so it’s important to do what you can to look after it.

If you’re having issues with your skin currently, then here are eight tips that might help to clear up troublesome skin this year.

Be gentle on your skin in general

First and foremost, your skin, despite its sensitivity is vulnerable. As the largest organ on the body and exposed to the elements, it’s important to take care of it. If you’re not looking after your skin by being gentle with it, then you’re going to do damage to it.

As you get older, the elasticity in your skin and the collagen that once kept you looking young are going to reduce significantly. As a result, everything takes longer to heal, and some wrinkling and loose skin will start to form.

By looking after your skin, it’s going to help ensure you have that elasticity for longer. Being gentle on the skin is going to help keep its firmness and you’re less likely to cause injuries that scar or damage the skin permanently.

Try to avoid anything that’s going to damage the skin such as tanning beds or activities that may break the skin repeatedly.

Avoid any abrasive facial or body scrubs

Body and facial scrubs are an excellent way to buff away dead skin cells and reveal the beautifully renewed skin underneath. However, it’s important you’re choosing your facial and body scrubs wisely as some are a lot more abrasive and harmful to the skin than others are.

It’s worth checking what level of sensitivity you have to your face and body. You may be someone who is sensitive for their face but when it comes to their body, they can deal with fairly abrasive scrubs. For others, it might be a sensitivity to all areas of the body or very little, to no sensitivity.

Experiment with some scrubs but avoid using anything too abrasive on your skin for the first time. Start off with light/sensitive scrubs and move your way up to the more abrasive ones if required. However, to help the skin, you should avoid anything too harsh.

Know what back acne triggers to avoid

Back acne is one that can be troublesome for many, especially as it occurs where it’s hard to observe, aka the back. There are a number of back acne triggers that are likely to make it worse or to trigger the appearance of the acne itself. Here are some back acne triggers to avoid:

– A lack of breathable clothing on the back

– Clothes rubbing against skin

– Not using body scrubs or body washes after washing your hair

– Stress

– Oily hair that’s not being washed enough

– Humid weather

Some will often get back acne during certain times of the year. If that sounds like you, then it’s worth exploring what your lifestyle looks like during that period. Sometimes, it’s a case of assessing the back regularly and shifting some of the common causes that back acne causes to help improve it.

Drink plenty of water every day

To help hydrate the skin from the inside out, it’s worth upping your intake of water per day. Ideally, everyone should be drinking at least a liter of water per day but that’s not something that’s often easily attainable.

However, if you are able to drink an extra pint or two per day, you’ll likely notice a big difference in your skin and more importantly, your energy levels! Water is a great option for those who are looking to stay hydrated and rid their body of any harmful toxins. It’s good for clearing the system and that in turn, can keep the skin clear too.

If you’re looking for that natural, youthful glow, then it can certainly be provided by drinking more water.

Avoid touching your face

We have a lot of natural oils created by our skin, that when we touch our face or hair, will contribute to more oils getting into the pores and hair follicles. If you’re someone who touches their face or hair a lot, then there’s a good chance that a lot of those breakouts are being caused by you touching your skin too much.

Not only that but your hands can come into contact with a lot of dirt and bacteria. It’s wise to avoid touching your face where you can in order to minimize the

Don’t pop your pimples

It’s a common habit for people to do, so you’re not alone if you already do it. Popping pimples is an oddly satisfying pastime to many and while it may be highly satisfying, it can cause scarring.

While the temptation may be too great for some, it’s worth trying to avoid popping your pimples where possible. There are those that can do it professionally so if you’re someone who gets pimples regularly enough, it’s worth approaching the right person who can pop them without causing too much damage.

Popping your pimples with dirty fingers can also cause more bacteria and dirt to get into the now-open wound which can cause further problems. If you find yourself popping them, at least clean your fingers and avoid putting too much pressure to pop the pimple. Make sure to clean the area with boiled water to minimize any further bacteria transfer.

Experiment with your skincare routine

When it comes to your skin, it’s worth experimenting with all of the different skincare products that are out there. From glycolic scrubs to retinol and double-cleansing products, there’s a whole industry available to shop with.

Experiment with what feels good on your skin and don’t be afraid to say a product didn’t work well for you. While it can be costly to spend money on skincare and for it not to work, at least you’re trying different options.

Eventually, you’re going to come across something that is perfect for your skin and that you’ll forever use from that day forward. Get experimental with your skincare routine and switch something up that’s not working effectively enough for you.

Keep your skin clean

With anything, whether it’s acne or skin that feels a little dull in appearance, keeping your skin clean is a must.

By washing your face on a daily basis, it’s going to wipe away all of those impurities so you’ve just got fresh, clean skin to work with. That includes both morning and nighttime skin routines, always start by washing your face. It offers a blank canvas to work with and that way, you’re not applying any other products onto the skin that’s dirty.

Clearing up troublesome skin is something that can take a little time and as our skin changes as we age, this might be a problem that comes back with a vengeance. We should all be looking after our skin, no matter what age. From our younger years to our twenties and thirties, it’s the perfect time to focus on looking after the skin.

With that being said, use these tips to make sure your skin is looked after this year and forever.
