The Most Romantic Makeup to Wear on Valentines Day

It’s true that every day is the day to put your best face forward. However, there is something exceptionally magical about Valentines Day that not only makes you excited about raiding your closet in pursuit of a dress that will send the right message, (the message being that you are over the moon in love 💘), but also about the makeup that will reflect the sentiment.
To that end, here are some of the most romantic suggestions for makeup looks that are bound to ensure your sweet Valentine is left with nothing but amazement and a desire to lavish you with never-ending kisses.

    The Classic Red Lip

If you’re a traditionalist and a firm believer in red being the color of love, a clean and classy red lip 👄look is the way to go. By this point, it’s most likely that you own your perfect shade of red lipstick, and it is time to fish it out of your makeup case. For this occasion, it’s highly recommended you opt for a matte lipstick, preferably powered by a lip-liner in the same shade. This will not only ensure durability and stain-free wine glasses, but it will also allow you the lengthy lip-locks with your significant other without having to run to the ladies room for a touch up every ten minutes.

As for the rest of your face, given the boldness of the red lip, keep things clean and simple. Be sure to have the right makeup brushes as they make all the difference in the world. When it comes to foundation, a flawless finish is best achieved by using a brush. Depending on your skin type, go for either a flat brush or if you’re not a fan of your pores a flat top foundation brush; it is the best tool for making them disappear.

Finally, the eyes. Apply a neutral eyeshadow across the lid as it will prevent your perfect eyeliner from smudging and make sure your wing is on fleek.

    The No-Makeup Look

For all the ladies out there who swear by the ‘less is more’ approach to makeup, a variety of nudes is what should be on your makeup table in preparation for this evening.

Apply your base shadow all over the lid. After that, pick up your crease brush in order to add a pop of color; preferably a light bronze or peach eyeshadow. After that, blend to smooth out the rough edges and achieve a seamless finish. Your lips should be covered with nothing but a gentle peach lip gloss designed to make you look fresh and effortless.

Of course, no no-makeup look is ever complete without a touch of shimmer, and that is where a good light honey highlighter comes to play. Grace the top of your cheekbones with the right amount of highlighter for that J.Lo glow, and by no means should you forget the tip of your nose and cupid’s bow for a full a kissable pout. If you are a visual learner and need help achieving this look, turn to Lisa Eldridge.

    Pretty in Pink

In case you wish to take a page from Emma Watson’s beauty book and exude that subtle romance, make pink your color. The eyeshadow palette that comes to mind for this look is one infused with different shades of pink.

Apply a neutral pale beige shade across your eyelid, and add just a touch of the satin-textured medium pink shade on the crease. Moderate amount of mascara is recommended for this look. The cheeks should be kept light. Use a translucent light pink blush gently applied with a blush brush.

As the rest of your makeup is dreamily fresh and light, the lips could stand for a pop of color. Don’t be afraid to use a more bold shade of pink, perhaps dab into the lightplum family. This look is bound to make you look like a fairy, evoking that A Midsummer Night’s Dream feel.

All of these looks celebrate femininity, romance and love. Each of these, in their own way; sends the same message, so there is no way you could go wrong with any of them. On Valentine’s day, wear your heart on your sleeve and let your face reflect the romantic goddess that you are.

Coastal Scents Brush Shampoo Cleanser Review

    Coastal Scents Brush Shampoo

It is important to keep your makeup brushes/tools clean at all times. Washing your brushes at least once per week is a great way of maintaining them and it prevents you from getting breakouts. The Coastal Scents brush shampoo cleanses all traces of makeup and impurities from the brush leaving it clean and fresh for next use. I have been using this brush cleaner for quite a while and it sure does stand up to its claims. I have also tried the Olive Oil and Baby Shampoo method of washing my brushes but often times my brushes are very oily and too much of sheen, even when I use the Olive Oil sparingly, this method does help with cleaning my brushes but I hate the after effect.

    Coastal Scents Brush Shampoo Review

The Coastal Scents brush shampoo is gentle on the brushes and it lathers, conditions and cleanse the bristle and fibers. I like to maintain my brushes by cleaning them once a week. This helps to prolong the life and performances of my brushes while giving me a flawless application each time I use it.

    1.     Apply a small amount of brush shampoo onto wet bristles
    2.     Massage brush against the palm of hands under running lukewarm water
    3.     Rinse thoroughly to remove soapy residue
    4.     Squeeze bristles gently to remove excess water
    5.     Reshape
    6.     Lay flat to dry

    ·         cleanses all traces of makeup and impurities from brush
    ·         small amount required

    ·         the bottle is not compressible
    ·         the liquid is difficult to dispense

I would definitely repurchase this brush cleaner since it cleanses my brushes very good without leaving traces of makeup and impurities. I found the bottle is not compressible and the liquid was hard to dispense from the bottle I ended up having to unscrew the bottle cap to get the liquid out. The liquid is of silicone texture and it lathers… I hope they add a pump to the bottle or redesign it for easy dispensation.

What is your method of cleaning your beauty tools?
Did you try this brush cleaner? What was your thought?

    Coastal Scents 22-Piece Brush Set
I was drawn to this 22-piece brush set from Coastal Scents by the ample amount of eye brushes included in the set. Even though I was having second thoughts about buying this brush set, it turns out that I eventually bought it and yes, I’m loving it.
    Brush roll closed dimension 7″(L) x 9.5″(W)
Looks like a clutch when closed
The Coastal Scents 22-piece brush set is a complete set of makeup brushes. The brushes cater to different needs from applying foundation to powder and eyeshadows. The brushes are super soft and of good quality.
    Brush Roll open dimension 24.5″(L) x 9.5″(W) x 0.50″ (H)
The brush roll is of a matte black faux leather material with the Coastal Scents logo imprinted in the middle of the closing flap. The flap folds up three times and has two magnetic snap buttons to keep it close. When you open the first flap you will notice a little zipper pocket that can be used to store small items. Upon unfolding the flaps one can notice a nylon type of material that separates, holds, protects and cover each brush.

    Coastal Scents 22-piece brush set

The 22-piece brush set is a combination of synthetic, nylon, natural brushes such as goat and pony hair. Out of the 22 brushes, it contains 8 face brushes, 9 eye brushes, 4 brow brushes that can also be used to apply eyeliners and 1 lip brush.

Coastal Scent Makeup Brush names, types and uses

    1. Fan Brush – made with synthetic hair
This brush is used for sweeping/dusting loose eyeshadow that fell out while applying, it can be also used to apply a light application of blush and bronzer. This brush does come in handy sometimes but it’s not often used like the foundation brush.
    2. Powder Brush – made with synthetic hair
It’s very soft and tends to give light coverage of powder but this is not something that I would use to regularly to apply powder to my face. I would prefer to use a fluffier powder brush to apply powder and use this brush to blend foundation all over my face.
    3. Flat Buffer Brush – synthetic hair
This brush is great for blending out an application of foundation.
    4. Angle Blush Brush – natural brush made of goat hair
This brush is super soft and its use to apply blush to the face.
    5. Round Powder Brush – Synthetic
This brush looks similar to a dual fiber brush, it has white brushes which can be difficult to clean but with a little olive oil and baby shampoo that will do the trick.
    6. Foundation Brush – Fiber Hair
This is used to apply foundation but you might want to use the flat buffer brush also to get a perfect blend.
    7. Large Shadow – Pony hair
This can be used to apply eye shadows, great for people with full eyes like myself.
    8. Concealer Brush – Nylon Hair
Great for applying your favorite concealer
    9. Dome Shadow Brush – Pony Hair
This is a stiff dome brush that can be used to create a smoky eye. It can also be used to apply eyeshadow at the outer V of the eyes and soft sweeping. It is perfect for smudging and blending into the lash line.
    10. Doe Foot Blender – Pony Hair
This is a fuller angled brush that can be used for blending, shading and contouring. It allows you to apply an even application from lash line to brow bone. It can also be used for mineral concealer around the eye and highlighting the brow.
    11. Dome Blender – Pony Hair
Use to apply eyeshadow on the crease and V of the eyes or blend eyeliner.
    12. Blender – Pony Hair
    For blending eyeshadow
    13. Pointed Blender – Pony Hair
    For blending eyeshadow
    14. Brow – Pony Hair
For applying highlight or eyeshadow to the brow bone
    15. Medium Shadow – Pony Hair
Use to apply shadow to the center of the eyelids.
    16. Detail Concealer – Fiber Hair
For applying concealer to small spots
    17. Detail Shadow – Pony Hair
Highlighting inner corner of eye (tear duct)
    18. Lip Brush – Pony Hair
Used to apply lipsticks to the lips
    19. Large Liner/brow – Nylon Hair
This is a soft bristle brush that can be used to apply eyeshadows on the eyelids and great for drawing cat eyes or creating the flick.
    20. Medium Liner/brow – Nylon Hair
Use for gel eyeliner, highlighting brows
    21. Small Liner/brow – Nylon Hair
Creating the flick or cat eyes
    22. Smudge Sponge – made from rubber
For softening gel liner or smudging eyeshadow for that smoky look

I’m so glad I bought these brushes, it is everything that I’m looking for in a brush set. The quality is amazing and the price is reasonable. I haven’t experienced much shedding with the brushes, the only brush that was shedding is the fan brush. The only downfall with this brush is identifying them since they are not labeled on the brush handles.

Would you buy these brushes? Do you already own them? What was your experience like using these brushes?

    How to Clean Makeup Brushes

    daily brush cleaner

How often do you clean your makeup brushes?

This practice should not be overlooked, as it is one of the most important things we should do before reusing of makeup tools. Makeup brushes can be a breeding ground for bacteria and natural oils that transmits onto your brushes; every time they come into contact with your skin. Especially if you use them on clients; it is possible that you are picking up germs and transferring them to the skin. Washing makeup brushes should be a regular part of one’s beauty routine; whether by doing it daily or weekly but not monthly. When you use makeup brushes bits of makeup, oil dirt and even bacteria often times get trapped between the brush bristles. Taking proper care of your makeup brushes can prevent clogged pores and pesky breakouts; it also helps to maintain the quality of your brush. So learning how to clean the brushes properly is one of the best ways to protect your investment.

Cleaning makeup brushes is very quick and easy. For daily cleaning one can purchase a daily brush cleaner and by spraying it on the brushes after each use will help to maintain the brushes. For once a week, a deep cleaning treatment is required. (Note that brushes will need more time to dry after deep cleaning).

Wash your brushes preferably at night and allow them to dry so they will be ready for the next day, or right after you apply your makeup. You just want to make sure you allow enough time for them to dry thoroughly before using.

Follow these steps to learn how to deep clean makeup brushes

    You will need
    ·         A shallow bowl
    ·         Gentle clarifying shampoo or baby shampoo
    ·         Olive oil
    ·         Water
    ·         Paper Towel or clean cloth

    1.     Run your brushes under lukewarm water, rinse out all of the makeup residues. Focus mainly on the actual bristles and avoid water to get close to the handle; as this can loosen the glue that holds the bristles.
    2.     Fill the bowl with lukewarm water and add a small amount of shampoo and olive oil then gently swirl the brush tip in the water. You can also swirl the brush bristles in the palm of your hand to work up a lather.
    3.      Rinse the brush bristles under running water and repeat steps 2 and then rinse until the water runs clear from the brush bristles.
    4.     Use a cloth or paper towel to wipe brush clean, and reshape bristles as you go.
    5.     Lay the brushes flat on a cloth or paper towel to dry.

There are also specially formulated brush cleaning shampoo on the market, that can be purchased online or in stores. A gentle clarifying or baby shampoo will do the trick though.

    ·         Apply clear nail polish over the numbers or names that are written on the brush, so they will not wear off and brushes will be easier to be identified
