5 Reasons Why Removing Makeup Before Bed is Incredibly Important

removing makeup before bed

You come home from a long day at work, or night on the town feeling exhausted the last thing you feel like doing is taking your makeup off! It’s so much easier to just fall into dreamland, and after all, you can always wash your pillowcase tomorrow, right?

“Forgetting” to remove your makeup every now and then isn’t such a big deal, but it gets to be a problem if you’re making it a habit. In a shocking 30 day experiment conducted by The Daily Mail, one woman actually aged her skin 10 years by not removing her makeup! Don’t want that to happen to you? In this article, we are going to share five reasons why removing your makeup before bed is incredibly important.

Makeup prevents your skin’s natural exfoliation process

Just like your body needs ample rest to regenerate healthy cells throughout the night, so does your skin. Did you know that while you sleep your skin goes through a natural exfoliation process? Dead skin cells fall off as you sleep, making way for new, healthy skin. If you wear makeup, this process is interrupted, causing congestion. This can result in dull complexion overtime, which let’s be honest… if you can avoid it, why not!

Makeup impedes collagen production

As your skin renews throughout the night (shedding dead skin cells), collagen is produced. Collagen, of course, is responsible for that plump, bouncy feeling that makes your skin youthful. Even though collagen production naturally depletes over time, wearing makeup while you sleep can further impede this natural process, and encourage early signs of aging like lines and wrinkles on your face.

It will clog your pores

This is likely the most obvious reason to remove your makeup before bed. It goes without saying that if you wear makeup while you sleep, your pores are going to be clogged. The result of clogged pores is oily skin, acne, blackheads, breakouts, and worsening of already present skin conditions. Don’t be surprised to wake up with a zit or two the morning if you choose to sleep with your makeup on.

Chemicals sink into the skin

While the switch to natural, organic makeup is certainly on the rise, the unfortunate fact is that most women are just too comfortable with their current makeup products. These products contain harmful chemicals that sink deep within your skin and cause hormone disruptions, improve the risk of certain cancers, and irritate the skin.

You’ll be at risk for an infection

Wearing makeup doesn’t cause infection, but leaving it on if you have a skin sore or abrasion (like a scratched or popped pimple), can certainly lead to infection. Why is this? When you have a pimple or other skin problem, your skin barrier is already compromised, so leaving chemicals on your skin for long periods can further irritate and infect the irritation. Better be safe than sorry and remove your makeup.

Make-up is a bomb, it's really cool but skin care is much more more important. This is so on point. Thanks for sharing.
