Put On the Right Outfit

Choose what to wear, depending on the activities you plan to engage in. The general rule is wearing lightweight clothes. Go for tightly woven clothes made of denim or polyester because they block the sun rays better than other fabrics. You can also check for clothes with built-in UPF. Dark colors offer more protection but tend to retain more heat. If you want to engage in water sports or any activities, carry some dry clothes to wear once you step out of the water. A hat with a wide brim will protect the ears, neck, and face. The ideal hat should be tightly woven and should be made of canvas and not straw. While hats made of straw look great, they have holes that allow the sun to reach the scalp and other parts of the head.

Shading yourself will lower the risk of getting sunburns. If you want to go out from mid-morning to up till evening, schedule your activities early in the morning or later in the evening. The skin under your eyes is delicate and can quickly get sunburns. The dark tint goggles block toxic light, but for skin protection, you have to look out for labels showing UVB and UVA coverage. Invest in sunglasses with large frames for maximum protection.
