The 4 Truths About Getting Enough Beauty Sleep

It seems to be an old-fashioned thing to claim to need beauty sleep. It’s something they seem to only say in old movies. Yet, the concept of beauty sleep is not some old wive’s tale. There is a truth to getting beauty sleep and not just a thing of fiction.

If you’ve ever been told that you look tired, it’s because your skin is paying the price for your lack of sleep. It is a fact that you will look and feel better when you have gotten enough sleep. In this article, we will go over several things that you should know about beauty sleep and how it affects you.

1 – No more puffy eyes

One of the primary reasons that we get puffy eyes is because of excess salt in the body. This manifests itself as inflammation. When we are not sleeping well, then this salt tends to accumulate under the eyes and results in those dark circles and bags.

Lack of sleep causes a rise in cortisol levels and this is what helps regulate that salt. When cortisol is high then the salt can’t do what it needs to do. Sleeping well on the other hand is going to help you manage your cortisol levels and you’ll see less inflammation.

To get rid of your puffy eyes, try taking some advice from Snooze University to help you find the best way to get some rest.

2 – Glowing skin

During the course of the night, the body is able to repair dead cells and help others get rid of waste. This results in new skin growth and a much better complexion. When you don’t get enough sleep, your body doesn’t have a chance to flush away those toxins and rebuild the damaged cells.

During the day, your skin is bombarded by UV rays, pollution, and dry air. This causes a lot of stress on your skin cells. You need that time asleep to repair and when you lack sleep your skin shows it. Your skin looks dull and pallid whereas when you get plenty of rest it looks glowing and plump.

3 – Fewer wrinkles

The cause of wrinkles is skin that doesn’t have the strength to be able to support itself. The cells get stressed and are not able to rebuild themselves since it needs to happen at night.

This causes creases that start to get more defined. When you get enough sleep the cells are rebuilt and the skin is able to retain moisture. This smooths out those wrinkles and makes them look less pronounced.

4 – You need 7 to 8 hours

There is no magic number when it comes to how many hours you should be sleeping each night since it varies from person to person. However, less than seven hours generally is going to cause problems for most people when it comes to their skin.
The quality of sleep is also a factor since if you get seven hours of restless sleep it’s as bad as not enough hours. Make sure to practice proper sleep hygiene for a restful and deep sleep.
