How To Style Your Instagram

Instagram is one of the most enjoyable and exciting social media platforms. It allows you to make short videos, go live, create excellent reels, and the Instagram feed itself.

But, if you are a brand or a blogger, then you might want to take your Instagram feed to a new level. It’s not always either, because if you have Instagram for a while, you might be stuck in a rut.

So here are some quick tips that can change how you approach your Instagram – changing the style to something that you want to see.

Grid Layout

Sure, we only have a few squares to play with, but you can do so much with those squares. You can create collages that completely ignore the rules and lines on Instagram.

You can have a line of brightly colored photos, a row of plain text, and then videos in another square.

Or you might choose to have a chessboard-type pattern.

Theme

The theme of your Instagram might feel like a mish-mash of things. Some Instagram users will plan their feed to be dedicated to food, others it is about bright colors, and some even choose to have a minimalist style.

To get your themes perfect, you will likely need to research how to edit your photos to meet your expectations. Vintage photography, matte look, grainy shots, or bright skies, and edited grass. Make sure that you are happy with your theme before you start posting. Use a grid planner to see what it is going to look like.

Topic

If you are a lifestyle blogger, you need to post about everything you want – within the color theme and style that you choose.

But what if you don’t have a niche topic that you like yet?

Well, it’s time to grab your camera and head out of the house or walk around your home. Take a look at what gives you a spark of passion and what you would want to share.

If you are a business, you should make sure that you stay on brand and on message with everything you put out on the feed.

Play with the arrangement

Before you hit the post button, play around with how the feed is going to look. You can check out some of the most beautiful Instagrams and see if they can give you some inspiration.

It is a fun idea to use some pieces of paper and play around with the placement away from the computer.

The accounts on Instagram that look so good had a lot of time spent on them to flow from one image to another. It’s not just that, though; the images can work alone or within the rest of the feed.

Balance is critical here too, the balance within your photos will show people what to look at first and then the rest of the details.

ATTENTION!

We have all had that moment after sending an email where we notice a glaring spelling mistake, and it can honestly feel like you want to reach into the internet and retrieve the emails (you can recall emails with some programs).

And with Instagram, it is the same – sometimes we post a photo with a messy background – but the rest of the shot is stunning. While taking the picture, be sure that you are constantly checking the background, so you aren’t in for any surprises.

When editing the photo, you can often blur out some of the backgrounds, but it is much easier to just be mindful in the first place.

Some of the most beautiful flats lays use wrapping paper or lino flooring to get the look they are going for.

A great tip is to create your own wallpapers or backgrounds. This guide can help you make something on brand and personal: See How Easy It Is to Create Your Own Custom Peel and Stick Wallpaper.

Spacing

Perhaps you want to leave a small gap between the edge of the photo and the edge of the Instagram square. This offers a small space that can have a very pleasing impact on your feed.

However, if the spacing isn’t all equal or isn’t all styled well, it can begin to look and feel disjointed.

An excellent tip for that is to build the exact frame you want to use in an editing program and use the same one all the time.

And finally, use the highest quality camera that you have access to. Modern smartphones have incredible cameras that can have some stunning results. High-quality photos will always make a feed look interesting.
