Offbeat USA: Great Lesser-Known American Cities

When it comes to visiting the cities of the USA, a number of names will shoot to the front of people’s minds. New York, Los Angeles, Washington D.C and San Francisco are all obvious choices. But sometimes one of the great joys of traveling if finding destinations that are a little bit off the beaten path that not so many people have been to in the past. With this in mind, let’s take a closer look at a few American cities that aren’t the location of a million movies and TV shows but still provide great places to visit this summer.

Fort Worth, Texas

While Houston, Dallas and Austin may take a lot of the plaudits, Fort Worth is another great city that shows you just how blessed Texas is as a state. Many people are drawn in by the chance to enjoy an authentic American West experience. Websites such as http://fortworthnation.com can provide more information. For sightseers, the Cultural District offers a treasure trove of riches, while Stockyards National Historic District is the place to go for more information about the history of the place. Entertainment opportunities are ample, so you certainly won’t be short of activities on a trip to Fort Worth.

Louisville, Kentucky

Louisville stands out in the state of Kentucky for its liberal values in a largely Republican state. If you are looking to visit a destination where the dining opportunities are absolutely first-class, you need to look no further! You also shouldn’t miss out on some of Louisville’s famous bars where the party keeps going until 4 am! If you are more interested in the cultural side of the place, it is certainly worth checking out Louisville Slugger, the Speed Art Museum and Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft.

Tulsa, Oklahoma

The city where Chandler from Friends was once forced to move to would probably not appreciate being called underrated! But in relative terms, Tulsa is still not a hugely visited place in the country. The second city in Oklahoma is well-known for being home to two of the country’s most highly regarded museums; the Philbrook and the Gilcrease. The downtown area is also buzzing with life, with regenerated neighborhoods galore and plenty of young people drawn by the universities and ample career opportunities. If you happen to be there in October, you should certainly not miss out on experiencing one of the best Oktoberfests that the world has to offer.

Islamorada, Florida

When most people think about the Florida Keys, their minds are usually immediately drawn to Key West and everything they have either experienced or seen on TV. A lesser-known and more cultured spot is located further up the coast, but that’s not to say that you won’t be able to find a Full Moon Party if you are there at the right time of year! Ultimately, it is a place where you can go to blow off some steam and enjoy a different section of this great state.
