Tell me about you, a short bio

My name is Claudia, I’m 23 years old from Denver Colorado.  I work as an assistant ECE teacher and I also have a YouTube channel (Simply Claudie J) that focuses on natural hair, beauty, and topic videos. I have my bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice. In my free time, I manage my YouTube channel Simply Claudie J , listen to music, watch movies, HGTV, and spend time with family & friends!

How long have you been natural?

I’ve been natural since May 2014 ( 2 years & 9 months)

Have you ever had a relaxer? Why did you decide to go back natural?

Yes, I had my first relaxer at 5. Then didn’t get another relaxer until I was 11. I decided to go back natural because I got curious about my hair, wanted to see if I could achieve long hair. Also, I was in college in a predominately white area and didn’t trust any with my hair and got tired of the upkeep.

Did you go through the transitioning process or big chop?
I transitioned from October 2012 until May 2014. My last relaxer was August 2012.

What is your hair regimen like? How often do you wash your hair?

I wash my hair once a week with a non-sulfate shampoo. Deep condition once a week. And do protein treatments when needed.

What are some of your staple product? Which brand (Cantu, Shea Moisture, AS I AM etc.) is your fave?
Shea Moisture JBCO Shampoo
Shea Moisture JBCO Hair Masque
Alikay Naturals Sage & Honey Deep Conditioner
Alikay Naturals Lemongrass Leave-in Conditioner

Do you use heat on your hair?
Rarely use heat. I have stopped blow drying and only use a hooded dryer to deep condition my hair. Decided to only straighten my hair once a year.

How do you feel about dying your natural hair?
I’m personally too scared to dye my natural hair b/c of damage. But I think it’s beautiful when other people do it. I’ve only dyed my hair a darker black (one shade up).

Have you ever considered going back to the creamy crack?
No!

Do you think that your natural hair gives you an extra flair?
Yes! I love my natural hair. It gives me so much versatility.

Does it add to your personal style?
I think it did add to my personal style because it gave me more options to switch it up. I get bored with looking the same so it’s always nice to be able to do something different.

What are some of your go-to styles?
I always do twist outs but I really want to try out different styles this year. I also alternate between wigs a lot.

Do you have a length goal?
My goal for the end of 2017 would be to reach BSL. But for my natural hair overall I would like to reach waist length. After that, I don’t think I’ll really care about the length.
