DIY: Homemade Hair Mask Recipes

Trying to keep your hair healthy and shiny always seems like a never-ending struggle. This is especially true during cold weather, when your hair is exposed to environmental influences like wind, snow and cold air, which are highly damaging for your follicles. Therefore, nourishing your hair with hydrating hair masks is the best treatment. What’s more, thanks to fruit, honey, and various oils, you won’t have to spend a fortune on expensive masks, but you can whip up your own.

Yogurt, Honey and Olive Oil

Due to its nourishing properties, yoghurt will help wash away the oil from the scalp and control greasy hair. However, when you mix it with honey and olive oil, yoghurt will also get your hair back in shape and make it look healthy and nourished. Therefore, mix 1 tsp of olive oil, 1 tbsp. of honey and ¼ cup of yoghurt; apply the mixture to damp hair and leave it for 15-20 minutes. Rinse the mask, shampoo your hair and let it dry naturally.

Avocado and Egg Yolk

Proteins in eggs nourish hair roots, fatty acids give your hair a glossy shine, potassium heals damaged hair and vitamins prevent hair breakage, promote hair growth and prevent hair loss. Therefore, if your hair needs deep nourishment, be sure to apply an avocado and egg mask to it to revive it fast. Mix 1 egg, 1 cup of milk, 1 lemon, and 1 tbsp. of olive oil. If you have oily hair be sure to mix only the egg white, while egg yolk is for dry hair only. For normal hair, you can use an entire egg. Apply the mixture to your scalp, massage it all the way to the ends, and leave it there for 15 minutes. While you’re doing this, make sure you’re in the shower, or stand over the sink, because the mixture will be oily and drippy.

Banana, Coconut Oil, Olive Oil and Honey

Anti-oxidants, vitamins and proteins in bananas will strengthen your hair and prevent split ends and breakage. If you use coconut oil, as it’s an excellent conditioner, your hair will look amazing. Depending on the length of your hair, blend 1 to 2 bananas smoothly, add the olive oil, coconut oil and honey and mix everything together. Leave it on your scalp for five minutes and then wash it off. Thanks to the rejuvenating properties of olive oil, your hair will be glossy, replenished and smooth. However, for a seriously damaged hair, professional hair products are sometimes the best and only solution. Therefore, feel free to invest in nourishing Alive skin + hair products that will truly make your hair alive again.

Sour Cream

A ½ cup of sour cream is everything a dull hair needs sometimes. Massage the sour cream into damp hair and leave it on for 20 minutes. Yoghurt can be a good alternative, as well. Be sure to rinse the cream with lukewarm water and shampoo it well. Apply this treatment every other week and your hair will never be dull again.

Winter Hair Mask

With the help of an apple cider vinegar, argan and rosemary oil, your hair will never be dry and dull during winter months. Mix 1 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar, 10 drops of rosemary essential oil, 2 tbsp. of argan oil, and ½ avocado in a blender. Apply the mask to dry hair and massage the mixture from the roots to the ends. Rinse your hair after 15 minutes and shampoo it as you always do. Apply this mask once a month and say goodbye to dry hair.
