12 Simple Ways to Keep Your Dental Implants in Good Shape

Want to ensure your dental implants are in good shape – follow these great tips.

Pay Attention to What the Doctor Says

It is important to listen to the doctor when it comes to caring for your dental implants. He or she has a good understanding of how these implants work and will be able to provide you with important information on the aftercare of these implants. As long as you are following the instructions that have been given to you, it should be easier for you to adjust to having these implants in your mouth.

Get Plenty of Rest

Most people do not realize how important it is for them to rest after their procedure is performed. If you are not taking it easy, you could end up experiencing additional bleeding and swelling. Give yourself time to heal from the procedure by relaxing and taking time off of work if necessary. You should not be getting too involved in strenuous activities during the healing time.

Use the Prescribed Medication When Needed

Some people feel like they do not need the prescription medication given to them by their physician simply because they have a high tolerance for pain and discomfort. Even so, it is important to take the medication you have been prescribed for as long as you have been directed to take it. There is a good reason why you have been given the medication in the first place, so make sure to follow the orders given to you.

Stay Hydrated With Water

One of the best things you can do for your mouth during the healing process is to drink plenty of water. Instead of reaching for the coffee or soda, consider sticking strictly with water until you have completely healed. Not only does it help with hydration, but it can also help you avoid experiencing complications that could occur during the aftermath of the procedure.

Do Not Smoke or Chew Tobacco

You may smoke cigarettes or chew tobacco on a regular basis, but you will need to stop during the healing process. If you do not stop, you are putting yourself at a greater risk of experiencing an infection. Aside from an infection, tobacco usage increases your risk of cancer and other serious medical issues, such as periodontal disease.

Try to Avoid Consuming as Much Alcohol

If you are drinking a lot of alcohol after the tooth implant, your gums may become inflamed, and that could put you at risk of an infection. Play it safe by skipping out on the alcohol for the time being. The doctor may advise you to stop drinking alcoholic beverages until the area of your mouth has healed properly.

Start Eating Healthier Options

Eating healthier foods is good for the healing process, but it is also a great way to improve your oral hygiene. Some of the healthier options you might want to consider adding to your list of delicious yet healthy food options include fresh salmon, fresh vegetables and even raisins.

Limit the Junk Food

While it is crucial to add healthier food options to your diet, it is equally as important to limit the amount of junk food you consume regularly. Foods that are loaded with sugar or are excessively sticky are not very good for the teeth. Although you may enjoy candy, cookies and assorted pastries from time to time, it is best to put a limit on how many you will have.

Limit Your Sugar Intake

Consuming too much sugar could cause decay to occur at rapid speed. If your teeth are decaying, it could become a major problem for you. Not only could decay eventually cause tooth loss, but it can also cause discoloration and other serious problems for you.

Get a Good Habit Going

Even though dental implants are not your real teeth, you still need to take care of them like they are real to keep them in the best possible condition. You should get in the habit of brushing and flossing regularly. It even helps to use a mouth rinse and water pick.

Keep an Eye on Your Implants

During your oral hygiene routine, make sure to check your implants out in the mirror. Keep eyes on the gums surrounding the implants, too. When you carefully inspect the area, you can check for any inflammation that may be developing. If you happen to notice any issues, you can contact the doctor right away or visit the cosmetic dentist based in East London.

Do Not Apply Pressure to the Area

During the healing process, make sure you do not put any pressure on that area of the mouth. You may need to eat softer foods for a while and chew on the opposite side of the mouth to avoid applying that pressure to the new dental implants.

These are some of the best ways to keep your dental implants in great condition while taking proper care of your teeth and gums.
