How to Get Rid of Nail Stains with Homemade Remedies

The consistent use of nail polish can leave a haggard looking yellow stain and discoloration on your nails that will look very unattractive. There are two options that be used to remove stained nails that you want to get rid of.

One, of course, is to cut your nails and allow it to grow back fresh; the other is to remove the stains by using different methods. Women generally love their nails properly done as they will like to apply nail polish once in a while when the mood strikes them. That being the case; here are some clever tips or pointers that will help you to get rid of nail stains.

Homemade Remedies to Remove Nail Stains

  • Use a cup of bleach mixed with warm water. Take a toothbrush and gently use it on your nails, by slowly scrubbing away to remove the stubborn yellow stains. They will require some persistent scrubbing although most stains will come off with this powerful homemade nail cleaner. Wash  your hands thoroughly afterward and also apply some moisturizer to soothe the skin that might have come in contact with bleach
  • Get toothpaste that consists of peroxide and, use the toothbrush to smear on some of the peroxide toothpaste, that’s known for its whitening properties; to remove stains. This is safer than bleach although slightly less effective. However, it might be very effective for you if you have very mild yellow stains
  • Lemon juice and certain oils like lavender oil are also very good at removing nail stains. Squeeze out a few drops and use a cotton pad to gently wipe off the stains. Reapply the oil or lemon juice once in a while and also swap out the cotton pad every few seconds to get the best results.

Instead of following the directions on the nail polish remover bottle; just soak your nails in the solution and then use a toothbrush to brush off the stains after a minimum of 10 minutes of soaking.
  • Hydrogen peroxide is also an excellent stain remover for nails. Use a 3% strength solution of hydrogen peroxide that is mixed in with an equal amount of water and then soak your fingernails for about 5-10 minutes. Then use a toothbrush to gently remove the stains afterward.
  • Baking soda when mixed with water can also be an excellent stain remover. Make a thick paste by mixing baking soda and water together and then use a toothbrush to scrub away the stains; to reveal gleaming nails that you can show off.
  • Rub a drop of lemon juice or lavender oil on nails and buff out the stain with a nail buffer.
  • By dropping 2 dentures cleaning tablets into a glass quarter filled with water then soaking and scrubbing nails in the solution will also remove stains.

When using nail cleansing solutions like baking soda, hydrogen peroxide or lemon juice; it is important that you rinse your hands and nails clean. It is recommended that you should also use moisturizer for the skin on your hands as well.
